About Erik

Community, service to others, and protecting those in need are the values that Erik Gutshall lives every day. His father, a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, and his mother, an accountant, emphasized these values in Erik’s life and urged him to always look towards helping those in need and giving back. Growing up in a military family, Erik and his brother spent most of their childhood in multi-family housing, thriving on the sense of community around him and his neighbors. His parents worked hard to make the best life possible for their children, and Erik kept a part-time job while taking rigorous classes in high school.

Erik attended James Madison University before moving to Arlington in 1995. He settled in Lyon Park with his wife, Renee, where they are currently raising their 3 daughters, who all attend Arlington Public Schools.

Erik got involved in the Lyon Park civic association and quickly became a leading voice for the revitalization of the Lyon Park Community House.  Taking the lessons of his childhood to heart, he has worked on issues facing every aspect of Arlington to help better improve our community. From working on complex development issues on the Planning Commission and tackling future transit in Arlington on the Transportation Commission to serving Arlington’s most vulnerable through Doorways for Women and Families, he’s striving to make Arlington a better place for all of us.

Erik invested in the community by launching his own innovative business right here in Arlington, Clarendon Home Services.  Beginning as a home-based startup in a spare bedroom, Erik has grown the company to $2M in annual revenue by building a team of 10 full time employees dedicated to earning the trust of their clients with a commitment to excellent service and straight-forward pricing.  Relying exclusively on word-of-mouth referrals, CHS is proud to have been recognized by the Arlington Chamber of Commerce as the 2012 Small Service Business of the Year.

Now, Erik is running for County Board because his experience in our community makes him uniquely qualified to tackle the challenges we face. As a 21-year resident, community advocate and trusted small business leader, Erik understands how to work collaboratively to solve our county’s problems and get the results we need to keep Arlington great.
